In the book, Geographical Place Names of Prince Edward Island, by Alan Rayburn, he describes the community of MacDougall - 5 mi S of Tyne Valley in Lot 15. Post Office 1876-1914, James MacDoughall first postmaster. Meacham 1880 shows Jonathon, Jas., and Rodk. McDougall at the corenr, and Danl. and Neil McDougall nearby. The school in Meacham 1880 is Cross River (former school district of MacDougall).
On the northwest corner of Routes 12 and 167 in MacDougall is this property - the house appears to be unoccupied.
A little
further up the road on Route 12 and at the corner of Baker Road is the
farmstead below. On Meacham's 1880 Atlas it shows a MacDonald family living
here. The house appears to be occupied, however, the barns and outbuildings
seem to be in decline.

ReplyDeleteAs a bit of info, The house you speak of at MacDougall Corner, on Route 12, I stopped and chatted with the Mr. MacDougall , next door.. I learned that his uncle? had a small general store, attached to that house.... and it exists today, as his garage! I had a tour of its interior, and the counter survives, as does all of the old shelving... and a good part of the bead board wallboards!
