    These pages were given to Arnold - interesting reading about the Rustico Telephone - it was located across the road from the Pines Motel in Rusticoville. 

Bordon Myers Woodworking, Parkdale (Charlottetown)

     I was in Charlottetown the other day and in the parking lot of Parkdale Pharmacy - I took these photos of Borden Myers Woodworking shop.  Here's a few photos I took.

        For more than 30 years I've been sending folks to Borden Myers Woodworking for windows, doors, etc.  Here's a door and window made by Borden.

MacWilliams Farm, Belfast

     I took these photos of this old homestead on the TransCanada Highway in Belfast yesterday.  Meacham's1880 Atlas shows this property belonging to Robt McWilliams (50 Ac) & Chas. & Jas McWilliams (52 Ac) - today it appears these two parcels are one.  The low roof pitch and style makes me think this is a mid-1800's house.  The house appears to be on the Chas. & Jas McWilliams portion.
     In Cummins 1928 Atlas it show's Jno. R. McWilliams with 110 Ac.  It notes that John is an Ex-Road Master; married to Catherine, with the following children: Marion, Margaret, Bruce, Florence and John.

Springbrook Aerial

     Arnold found this aerial photo amount a few things from his days - thinking the image was taken in the 1960's.

      The farm in the lower left corner is completely gone - not a shingle remains!  See zoomed in below.

     Same for the farm in the upper middle of the image - the old Doughart Farmstead (1928 Cummins Atlas shows Allan C. Doughart here; 1880 Meacham's Atlas show's Wm. Cole here with 62 acres) - not a shingle of that property remains.  Below is a zoomed-in image of the farmstead.  The house became famous for it's "No Picture Taking" sign and featured on the back cover of book, "A Day in the Life of Canada" published in 1984.  The house was bought and moved to French River where it remained empty and in ruins for years.  For a few years it was featured on the cover of the PEI Tourism's Arts & Heritage Trail guide.  In 2016 it was destroyed by a "control burn".
     The farm in the top left corner still has a house and barn remaining.

      Further up the road were a few old barns (see far left, third up) - they were burned for a scene in the "Emily of New Moon" TV series.

1916 Hunter River Post Card on ebay

     Thanks Bethany for telling about this post card on ebay!   I've never seen this view in an old image of Hunter River before.

Mill site of the John S. Bagnall Saw Mill, Hazel Grove

     I stopped the other day to take this photo where the Bagnall's Saw Mill used to be - it was straight in from this photo.  This is looking east on Route 239 (Route 2 Highway is a half mile away to the south).  In the 1864 Hutchinson's Prince Edward Island Directory it lists John S. Bagnall of Hazel Grove owning the saw mill here.  This stream goes down to Bagnall's Pond in Hunter River where the Bagnall's once operated a saw mill, hardware store and woodworking shop in the old Patterson Grist Mill.

This is across the road looking north - see the old barn in the photo below.

Interesting House, O'Leary

     This gem of a house is located on North Street in O'Leary - the interesting detailing would suggest it was built pre-WWII.

Haszard-Cannon-Montgomery-Adams-MacDonald House, St. Eleanor's - Demolished

     I received this note today from Summerside resident Roxanne Hately-Leard.  Much thanks for bringing this to my attention and for providing additional information!    
     "John E. MacDonald House... I took this picture a week ago Friday.  to my dismay, it was torn down this past Monday.  It had been condemned.  It was also known as the Loman Adams house.  This was an old house.  I think it had been moved from North Street, St. Eleanor's.  It sat across the street from St. John's Anglican cemetery.  Thought you would be interested in this.  Enjoy your blog.  I think many more will after the article in the news." 
     The house was located at 45 South Drive in St. Eleanors.

      The following information about this house comes from Sketches Of Old St. Eleanors. 1973. Page 30

      “Thomas C. Cannon, son of Fred and Mary Lane Cannon set up business on the corner dealing in oysters which at one time sold for $5.00 per barrel.  He also sold flour and other goods.  His residence was erected by Haszard previous to 1856.  An oyster house was located on the opposite corner (Bernards).  The house was sold to R. H. Montgomery and in 1917 to Loman Adams who moved from Birch Hill to St. Eleanor’s in 1913.  The house was moved later as the corner lot was suggested as a suitable location for the Soldier’s Monument.  This house is now the residence of John MacDonald, the exterior architecture has remained much the same as the original.” 

     This is amazing - unknowing I'm related to this property through the Cannon and Compton families.  Here's some Cannon genealogy from www.islandregister.com
